Water Gallery
WATER: BOAT
The Sailboat will engage visitors in imaginary play activities that reflect a popular and necessary water activity in this Great Lakes region. Children will hoist and lower signal flags, fish with poles and magnetized fish, and wear life jackets to build good boat safety habits. But of course, the highlight of the Sailboat will be opportunities to engage in water play activities and experimenta-tion with water. Children will experiment with splashing, pouring, scooping and soaking using cups and spoons, wheels, jets of water and adjustable flippers.
LIGHTHOUSE
The Lighthouse will be modeled after the Grassy Island lighthouses, set at the mouth of the Fox River, a place alive with the sights and sounds of the river, Green Bay and the Great Lakes. Real objects, sounds and large scale murals help to transport visitors into the setting.
Children will be invited to explore the working of a lighthouse and its connections to the safety of boats on the water.
BEACH
The Beach will evoke the natural wonder of the beaches and for-ests of Northeast Wisconsin. Sand play, sculpting, and building activities will invite children and adults to explore and interact in a natural area even when the weather turns cold outside. Signs re-mind swimmers of safe practices.
