Green Bay, Wisconsin. November 23, 2011—The Children's Museum of Green Bay (CMGB) will launch a very special fundraising effort focused on a very special group of individuals on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. on the corner of Pine and Washington Streets in Green Bay.

The leaders of the CMGB are very much aware of the unique relationship that many of the community’s grandparents have with their grandchildren. With that in mind, a fundraising campaign is being started that will allow grandparents to participate in the building of the new museum in downtown Green Bay.

The campaign will encourage grandparents to make a contribution of $500 in the name of each of their grandchildren. Those gifts will be recognized in the entrance to the museum.

The CMGB is being built to mirror other national institutions with a strong emphasis on staff/child and parent/child interaction with the displays. “We see a great opportunity for grandparents to spend quality time with their grandchildren, helping them learn with each experience,” says museum director, Toni Burnett.

She also stated that, “With young families struggling to make ends meet these days, we felt approaching grandparents to help support this valuable addition to Green Bay’s educational scene would be a good opportunity for both the donors and the institution.”

A link on the museum’s website—www.gbchildrensmuseum.org/grandparents/—is dedicated to accepting donations to the campaign. It will also provide an opportunity for grandchildren to pay tribute to a special grandparent via a donation to the museum in their honor.

As to the Children’s Museum’s financing, we have received our letter of financial commitment from Calumet County Bank. Part of the commitment is that we must raise an additional million dollars prior to disbursement of funds. With close to 2.4 million raised out of the goal of $4 million, we are confident that we will be able meet and exceed our loan contingency prior to closing.

The Children’s Museum committees continue to work on community outreach, exhibits and programming for the new museum. We have used this time to meet with other renowned children’s museums, which has helped us create even stronger exhibits and programming for the new museum.
